Delaware & Ulster Railroad

A trip aboard the Rip Van Winkle Flyer on the Delaware & Ulster Railroad is a trip back to the Golden Age of Passenger Trains. A Classic Streamliner, it evokes an era of travel when great care went into the dining car operations of our nation’s railroads. For many, our Rip Van Winkle Flyer is the crowning jewel of a Catskill Mountains visit. Traveling aboard our Classic Streamliner, you will enjoy some of the finest Dining Car selections in the country, all while enjoying the magnificent Catskills landscape. Your 2 1/2-hour excursion provides a delightful luncheon and a memorable ride aboard the Rip Van Winkle Flyer. As the seasons change, your trip features continually evolving scenery and glimpses of assorted wildlife including birds, beavers, deer and other native animals as you travel along the East Branch of the Delaware River.  On many trips Bald Eagles or Great Blue Herons can be seen soaring or fishing in the lake and rivers along the railroad.

We offer a wide selection of dining options for our passengers, including our signature three-course luncheon as well as other informal meal choices or brunch.  Menu options change with the season and the time of day. All meals are served in our dining cars that are fully climatized for the season. Many of our passengers choose to ride in our Vista-Dome – the “Grand Hotel” – offer a near 360-degree view of the passing scenery. We take considerable pride in operating the Rip Van Winkle Flyer for an enhanced passenger experience – complete with crisp tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table. Our staff is committed to delivering a memorable trip for every guest.

In addition to the Rip Van Winkle Flyer, we offer traditional excursions with open air cars and coaches. We also operate a steam locomotive during our Spring and September weekends, along with our popular Train Robbery Barbeques on the railroad.

Rolling from early spring to late autumn, the Rip Van Winkle Flyer can be booked for group trips and charters from May to November. The Delaware & Ulster Railroad is located just three hours north of New York City via the New York State Thruway. Our station and other facilities are fully accessible with ample parking for motor coaches, buses and automobiles.
