Detroit Zoo

Groups needs Vitamin Z—part wonder, part amazement. Get it only at the Detroit Zoo, open 362 days a year.

The Detroit Zoo – one of Michigan’s largest family attractions – is situated on 125 acres of naturalistic habitats, providing a home for more than 2,500 animals representing 270 species.  The Zoo includes animals from aardvarks to zebras and features naturalistic habitats such as the Arctic Ring of Life, National Amphibian Conservation Center, Australian Outback Adventure, Great Apes of Harambee, Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness and Butterfly Garden.

Make your visit truly memorable with a visit to the Wild Adventure Zone, where your group will "see, feel and experience" our 4-D Theater and see the world through the eyes of animals on the Simulator Ride.  For lunch, dine at one of the Zoo’s restaurants or let us enhance your group’s dining experience with customized meal options that include picnic packages, boxed lunches or private Zoo events.  Next, take a spin on a sea lion, revolve on a rabbit and twirl on a T. rex on our 36-foot custom-made, wood-and-brass Carousel.  At the end of the day, give your tired feet a rest while enjoying a train ride on the Tauber Family Railroad to the front of the Zoo.

Opened April 18, the Polk Penguin Conservation Center is the largest and most spectacular project the Detroit Zoological Society has ever undertaken. One of the most dramatic features of the $30 million facility will be a penguin “deep dive” with views above and below water as the birds dive and soar through a chilled 326,000-gallon, 25-foot-deep aquatic area.

The Detroit Zoo will light up the night this holiday season with Wild Lights, a spectacular light display.  More than five million LED lights will illuminate trees, buildings and animal sculptures throughout the front half of the Zoo.  Groups will experience the magic as they take in the lights and the sights and enjoy holiday entertainment and special activities for guests of all ages.  Wild Lights will be held select dates in November and December.
