Redding, California
Located in the heart of Northern California (two hours north of Sacramento), the city of Redding serves as an outdoor adventure playground for all group travelers. Labeled the sunniest city in California, with over 300 days of sunshine per year, Redding is surrounded by 14 national and state parks, mountains, volcanoes, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, caves, trails, and educational sites with informative guided group tours. Best of all, the lack of traffic makes for effortless accommodations at 22 bus-friendly hotels, featuring more than 2,000 rooms that are conveniently located near more than 300 restaurants, as well as free or low-cost attractions.
At the epicenter of the city is the famous Sundial Bridge, one of the largest working sundials in the world. The glass-decked pedestrian bridge stretches across the Sacramento River, linking the arboretum and botanical gardens to the 300-acre Turtle Bay Exploration Park & Museum, which features interactive experiments and various wildlife exhibits.
Groups can learn about limestone caves on a tour of the Lake Shasta Caverns National Natural Landmark. A free, guided tour is also available of Shasta Dam, the largest man-made reservoir in California, which also generates hydroelectric power. Shasta State Historic Park provides a peek into 1860s California Gold Rush history, with guided tours of the mining city’s ruins, courthouse, jail, and gallows.
Nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park features all four types of volcanoes in one park and offers the chance to study the geothermal activity of steaming fumaroles and bubbling mudpots. It is also a popular spot for hiking trails and waterfalls, just like McArthur-Burney Falls State Memorial Park, where visitors can see the majestic 129-foot Burney Falls.
The Redding Convention & Visitors Bureau works closely with each group to identify specific needs and build a custom itinerary that surpasses the expectations of operators and guests. For more information, phone (530) 225-4010 or browse visitredding.com.
