National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is a Smithsonian affiliated, nationally accredited museum that tells the story of the Atomic Age - from early development, such as the Manhattan Project and Cold War, to today's peaceful uses of nuclear technology. As the nation’s only congressionally chartered museum in its field, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History’s mission is to serve as America’s resource for nuclear history and science.
Established in 1969, the museum welcomes visitors of all ages and backgrounds to learn, think, imagine, and draw their own conclusions. From the incredible periodic table of elements carved into the floor of the museum’s spacious lobby and the in-depth exhibitions focusing on nuclear medicine and clean energy to the historic artifacts from World War II and the nine-acre outdoor exhibit area known as Heritage Park, there is truly something for everyone.
Children will love the interactive exhibits in Little Albert’s Lab, where they can engage with hands-on science activities, and everyone will want to experience the behemoth airplanes and missiles found in Heritage Park. The museum displays aircraft such as a B-29 Superfortress, an F-16 Fighting Falcon, a B-52B Stratofortress, a MiG-21 and more, while also hosting numerous military vehicles, missiles, and even a nuclear submarine sail. The museum’s outdoor exhibit area also displays the world’s only 100 ft. replica of the Trinity Tower, the steel structure that held the world’s first atomic bomb for testing in 1945.
It is through thought-provoking permanent exhibitions and engaging family programs that the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History brings the amazing and often controversial world of nuclear science and history to life. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 601 Eubank Blvd SE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Group rates range from $8 to $12 per person, depending on size and customization of visit, and drivers and one escort receive comped admission. The on-site parking lot can accommodate motorcoaches, and dining is available at local restaurants. Please contact Stephen Whitman, Group Sales Coordinator, at swhitman@nuclearmuseum.org for details.
