The Windmill Farm & Craft Market
Penn Yan, New York
Located in the “heart of it all” and situated on 44 tree-lined acres, The Windmill
Farm & Craft Market is nestled in the rolling hills of Upstate New York. Just south of Penn Yan on
State Route 14A and bordered by Keuka and Seneca Lakes, the scenic surroundings are almost unimaginable. Beginning over 30 years ago with one man’s dream, a bulldozer, volunteers, a barn raising and selling hot dogs, The Windmill is growing stronger than ever.
The Windmill is host to over 175 indoor and outdoor shops filled with hand-crafted items too numerous to count. You will discover great food, tasty treats, fresh produce, flowers, custom cabinetry, furniture, fashion, healthy choices, local wineries, artistry, micro brews, entertainment, hands-on activities and so much more. It is recommended that groups allow two to three hours at The Windmill, but a whole day can easily be spent in leisurely shopping, relaxing to live entertainment, watching crafters create or just having fun with family and friends. The Windmill offers many onsite dining options from full restaurants to unending snack options, including fresh squeezed lemonade, pierogis, bloomin’ onions, kettle corn, tacos, ice cream and soft custard, sno-cones, cotton candy, popcorn and peanuts, pizza, fudge, soft pretzels, local cheeses, a chicken barbecue and coffee. With six wineries, a brewery and a distillery, The Windmill is a one stop destination for tastings.
During the 2017 and 2018 season, The Windmill has added almost a dozen new vendors that offer items such as hand painted glassware, handmade signs and lawn games, paintings, ukuleles, cheese filled pepperoni, handmade soap and candles, hand designed sterling silver jewelry and clothing, BBQ rubs, grass fed beef, pastured eggs, sports memorabilia, hand-turned wood items, fermented beverages, vintage and gently loved clothing and accessories, bubble tea, exotic jerky, therapeutic flax seed pillows and more. New for the 2018 season, The Windmill will be offering horse drawn wagon rides.
The Windmill is a short drive from so many things to do and see; it is easy to know why they are in high demand for large and small group tours, which are always welcome. They welcome limos, small buses and large motorcoaches as well. The facility can accommodate several thousand people at a time. There is ample convenient parking for several motorcoaches at the Hobson Road entrance. Reservations are not mandatory, but The Windmill would like to preregister groups so they can be welcomed with a step-on guide. Preregistered groups will also receive a gift certificate for the tour leader and the motorcoach driver, as well as shopping bags for the group with a discount flyer for use with participating Windmill vendors.
