How would you like to experience riding a steam locomotive up a 4% grade to an elevation of 10,015 feet! Well, climb aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic railroad and let us take you on an unforgettable historical journey across the beautiful Rocky Mountain West. At 64-miles in length, it is the longest, highest and most authentic steam railroad in North America.

Experience the gorgeous mountainous terrain as you wind along canyon walls, burrow through two tunnels, and steam over trestle bridges. Built in the early days of the 1880s, the Cumbres & Toltec chugs along its narrow-gauge rails at the top speed of 12 miles an hour from Chama, New Mexico to Antonito, Colorado. Midpoint through your adventure you will stop for lunch at Qsier Station and enjoy a delicious hot meal which is included in your ticket price.

Our season begins Memorial Day weekend and runs through the third weekend in October. Throughout the season we do have several excursions and special events to choose from. Our daily trains depart from each depot at 10 am, Tuesday through Sunday. If you are a hiker, we have the perfect trail…come hike the Continental Divide. Some of our special events include our 4th of July dinner train, Geology trains, and the Galloping Goose. In the fall, the changing of the leaves’ colors is spectacular and is a great photo opportunity for all.

All groups are welcome, whether it be touring groups, schools, family celebrations. Groups will be offered a special group rate provided that the group is over 20 passengers and will be greeted by the Group Sales representative or by the assigned reservationist upon arrival.
