The Shore Line Trolley Museum
Business Name: The Shore Line Trolley Museum
Long Business Description:

Rail & Sail, Specialty Tours, Northeast
The Nations’ Oldest Continuously-Operated Street Railway
East Haven, Connecticut
Ride the last remaining 1.5 miles of the Connecticut Company’s New Haven trolley system at The Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, Connecticut.
More than 23,000 visitors each year experience what it was like to live during the Golden Age of Transportation. Visitors of The Shore Line Trolley Museum take a ride on an antique, restored trolley car on an authentic trolley line. Informative tour guides explain the rich history of the trolley car. Groups learn how the trolley car shaped cities and suburbs. Visitors are escorted through car barns where meticulously restored vehicles are displayed.
During their visit, groups may ride a trolley from the streets of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; New Orleans; Atlanta; Brooklyn; Manhattan or Montreal.  Groups may alternatively ride the Connecticut trolley that has operated on this line since the car was built in 1904. The museum is also home to a collection of New York City subway cars -- including one of the only surviving 9-11 New York Port Authority subway cars. A roundtrip tour includes car barn tours, a trolley ride and entry to the Visitors Center and the gift shop. The experience takes approximately 45 minutes. As the trolley cars themselves are considered museum artifacts, they have not been modified. Each ride is identical to the rides experienced by millions of people during the first half of the 1900s.
The line opened on July 31, 1900 connecting the city to the Shore Line communities.  In 1947, the trolley line was turned over to the Branford Electric Railway Association and in 1983 the museum was designated a National District of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of Interior.
Five minutes from I-95 and in close proximity to shopping outlets, eateries and other tourist attractions, The Shore Line Trolley Museum is a great way to start or end any tour. The museum is open year round for private reserved charters and the general public operation runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day with special events in April, May and September – December.  Make reservation inquires by phoning the museum at (203) 467-6927 or e-mailing reservations@shorelinetrolley.org.
