Long Business Description:

Visit Landmark Center with your next bus tour! Landmark Center in Saint Paul, MN offers public and private tours that range from a broad presentation of the building’s history and its beautifully restored courtrooms and Cortile, to tours tailored to the specific needs of the groups or individuals taking the tours.

Landmark Center, formally the Old Federal Courts Building, resides in the beautiful Rice Park neighborhood of downtown St. Paul. Known to many as St. Paul’s very own castle, construction on the building began in 1892 with the main part of the building completed in 1902. The North Tower, a copy of the Trinity Church tower of Boston which is one of Richardson’s most well-known works, was added in 1908. Originally conceived and used as a post office, custom house and Courthouse, the building eventually became headquarters for all federal offices in the Upper Midwest. In 1967 the government moved its offices to a new building and the Old Federal Courts building was scheduled for demolition. Once vacant and facing the wrecking ball, determined citizens of St. Paul worked tirelessly to save it. Today the building serves as a community cultural center and is open 7 days a week. Visitors are able to partake in self-guided tours of the building and the 4 restored courtrooms during building hours.

Free guided tours* are offered on Sundays at 12:30pm, do not require a reservation and last approximately 45 minutes. Private tours are available for groups of 10 or more with prior arrangements. Call 651.292.3237 or email Jenny Reinhard at jreinhard@landmarkcenter.org for more information and to book. Two-week advance reservation required, tours last 45 minutes and cost $4 per person.

In addition to viewing the building, there are also two free museums housed in Landmark Center; the Schubert Club Music Museum and the American Association of Woodturners Gallery of Wood Art. Landmark Center hosts a variety of cultural programming throughout the year; one never knows what they might find when they visit.

*Public Tours will not take place on holidays and during some events. Please check the community event calendar for conflicting events.
