Unlike those found in other states, the North Dakota Badlands are unique with multi-colored layers of clay, sandstone, red “scoria” rock, black coal veins and ruddy brown cannonball concretions. The park’s north and south units feature scenic drives with spectacular views of the Little Missouri River, plus wildlife including roaming herds of bison and wild horses.

Nearby towns like Watford City, Dickinson and the old west town of Medora provide warm hospitality. Tour groups enjoy feasting on the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and experiencing the Broadway-style Medora Musical, performed nightly June 8-Sept. 10 in an outdoor Badlands amphitheater.
