USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park
Business Name: USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park
Long Business Description:

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is one of Alabama's top 10 must-see attractions for motor coach tours and group travel, located conveniently on Battleship Parkway in Mobile, Alabama. In addition, the park is home to two National Historic Landmarks: submarine USS Drum and battleship USS ALABAMA.

The park has multiple attractions: USS ALABAMA, USS DRUM, Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion, tanks and artillery, and memorials. The USS ALABAMA was commissioned in August 1942 and was home to a crew of 2,500 courageous Americans. The “Mighty A” earned nine battle stars for her World War II service.  She was decommissioned in January 1947. After a statewide fundraising campaign to save her from the scrap yard, the USS ALABAMA was towed from Bremerton, Washington, to Mobile Bay, and the park opened its doors for the first time in January 1965. Since then, over 19 million visitors have walked the decks of the “Mighty A.”

The USS DRUM is the oldest Gato class, diesel-electric World War II submarine on public display. Commissioned in November 1941, she earned 12 battle stars for World War II action. USS DRUM remained in active service until she was acquired from the Navy in the late 1960s. The USS DRUM opened to visitors in July 1969.

The Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion features historic aircrafts, military vehicles, and artifacts. Additional aircraft are also displayed throughout the park.

When walking the ground at Battleship Memorial Park, you’ll encounter military equipment from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Finally, pause and take in the memorials placed here to honor our veterans.

Battleship Memorial Park is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the last ticket is sold at 4:00 p.m. The park is open every day except Christmas Day.  We offer self-guided group tours only; no private or guided tours are provided.
