Evergreen Heritage Center: A Farm for Education, Conservation, & Preservation
Business Name: Evergreen Heritage Center: A Farm for Education, Conservation, & Preservation
Long Business Description:

Located in the heart of Western Maryland’s Appalachian mountains,
this historic 131 acre farm, now known as the Evergreen Heritage
Center, tells the story of the early settlement of America from the
time it was established during the Revolutionary War. Adjacent to
the Great Allegany Passage (GAP Trail) we share our historic
property with thousands of students and visitors annually. Visitors
can tour the museums, gardens, and greenhouses, and can
explore its scenic hiking trails past dozens of historic and
environmental points of interest.

The Evergreen Heritage Center offers three museums filled with
antiques and artifacts. The Farmhouse’s orginal construction dates to
c.1780 with additions in 1822 and the 1880’s. It is interpreted to
the Victorian time period but includes the 1822 kitchen located in
the former walkout cellar.

The c.1780 companion barn with its soaring timbers features an
event space and the Agricultural Museum. Visitors can find multiple
exhibits including a reconstructed mine opening and blacksmith
shop along the 1-mile interpretive trail following the former
tramway in the Coal Camp.

Our visitors love to stroll through the native gardens and our unique
one-acre forest garden showcasing agriculture under the forest
canopy. We invite you to explore this National Register listed
property and its story of the past 250 years of farming and living off
of the land.

Additional amenities include two timber frame pavilions for
picnicking, a large parking lot to accommodate buses, and multiple
restrooms across the property. A variety of hands-on, interactive
activities can also be provided, inquire for options.
