The Santa Fe Opera offers world-class performances with beautiful music, compelling drama, amazing costumes and set design – along with stunning sunsets and mountain views. Kicking off the 2024 Summer Festival Season is Verdi’s La Traviata. This lavish new production is set in 1939 Paris and directed by Louisa Muller. Stephen Barlow directs a new production of Don Giovanni set in Victorian London viewed through the lens of the picture of Dorian Gray. The world premiere of Gregory Spears and Tracy K. Smith’s The Righteous is a story of a man’s journey from preacher to governor and how his desire for more wreaks havoc on his family, friendships and faith. Der Rosenkavalier returns to the Santa Fe opera for the first time in 32 years. Bruno Ravella directs this elegant new production set in the 1950s. Rounding out the season is the return of our 2009 production of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love directed by Stephen Lawless, set in a small Italian village in the 1940s.
